“Schindler’s List” is a historical drama directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg and scripted by Steven Zaillian.
It is based on the novel “Schindler’s Ark” by Thomas Keneally, an Australian novelist.
The film is based on the life of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman who saved the lives of more than a thousand mostly Polish-Jewish refugees during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories.
You’d have to imagine that filming “Schindler’s List” had to be hard, especially for the director, and Robin understood the heaviness of the movie so he called Steven once or twice during the filming to make him laugh and cheer him up so the director would bring his A-game.
Spielberg called these “comic care packages over the telephone.”
“I think I only called him once, maybe twice.” Said Williams “ I called him when I was representing People for the Valdheimers Association. A society devoted to helping raise money to help older Germans who had forgotten everything before 1945. I remember him laughing and going thank you.”
