Based on the popular novel of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and directed by Baz Luhrmann, “The Great Gatsby” is a great American tale about a mysterious self made man simply known as Gatsby.
This film has stellar casting with perfectly fitted Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby and Tobey Maguire as Carraway. This adaptation remains very true to the original material and breathes a new visual life to the classic novel. It is highly recommended for Fitzgerald fans.
2. The Wolf of Wall Street

Directed by the legendary crime movie director, Martin Scorsese, you know going into this film you won’t have to know too much about Wall Street to keep up with this fast paced and fun movie.
Leonardo DiCaprio plays real life stockbroker, Jordan Belfort, as you’ve never seen DiCaprio before. Through his gambling, drug induced, sex crazed antics you will be laughing and cheering for him the whole way as he climbs to the top.
3. 12 Years a Slave

This tragic and true historical piece that took the country by storm was directed by Steve McQueen. The film tells the story of Solomon Northup, a free African American living in New York in 1841, who is abducted and sold into slavery.
This film is now famous for its graphic brutality, and realistic portrayal of the pre emancipation era in the United States. It’s highly recommended for history buffs or fans of films that challenge them at an emotional level.
4. Django Unchained

If you love spaghetti westerns and Tarantino movies, this film was made especially for you. While most of the film isn’t meant to be taken seriously, it still has its heartfelt moments, like the main character Django’s love for his lost wife Broomhilda and how far he’s willing to go to rescue her.
Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz make the perfect Western frontier film team by bringing a lot of heart and laughs.
5. Frozen

A beautifully 3D animated Disney film brought to you by the same people who produced “Tangled” (2010). Based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale “The Snow Queen”, it is a retelling that focuses on two royal sisters.
The older, Elsa, has the ability to control ice and must keep it secret from her younger sister Anna to protect her. When things go wrong, it’s up to Anna to save her sister and the kingdom.
If you liked “Tangled,” then you’ll enjoy this film’s lovable characters and modern take on fairy tale clichés.
6. Despicable Me 2

Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig return in this ever popular franchise of a supervillain that turns good as he struggles to be a good father to his three adopted daughters.
This film has everything you loved about the first film, hilarious scenes, Steve Carell reprising his role as Gru, Kristen Wiig returning to play the eccentric Lucy, and of course the adorable minions.
7. Hunger Games: Catching Fire

With a new director, Frances Lawrence, the second film in the Hunger Games franchise gets a much needed makeover with a lot less shaky cam and more memorable moments with the characters that carry the story.
Katniss and Peeta become targets of the government of the capitol after they’re defying victory in the last “Hunger Games” that inadvertently sparks a rebellion. Katniss now must choose to either accept her new role as a symbol for the people, or do what she can to save her loved ones.
8. Gravity

Praised as the new “Space Odyssey,” this sci-fi thriller starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney will keep you on the edge of your seat as Ryan Stone (Bullock) struggles to survive adrift just above the Earth’s atmosphere, the loneliest and terrifying of places.
It is highly recommended to all sci-fi and thriller suspense fans.
9. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Ben Stiller stars and directs in this adventure comedy about a Life Magazine photo technician named Walter Mitty. Walter is awkward and zones out into his own little world quite often. When a very important print goes missing, he brings it upon himself to track down the photographer to retrieve it and goes on the adventure of a lifetime.
This film is very likable with breathtaking geographical cinematography and funny moments between Stiller and co star Kristen Wiig.
10. Saving Mr. Banks

Based on real life events of Walt Disney working with P. L. Travers, author of Mary Poppins. This movie shows a new light on the relationship between two artistic minds that were on completely different wave lengths.
Disney is portrayed as the charismatic business man that he was, while P. L. Travers is shown as a woman who just wanted to protect her art work based on her difficult childhood.
This is the movie for the fans of the original book that may not have cared for the Disney musical version of the tale. To see the real life events that took place behind the scenes is a real treat for bookworms and Disney fans.
