“The Purge” is a 2013 social science fiction action horror endeavor written and directed by James DeMonaco, staring Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Adelaide Kane and Max Burkholder.
It is the first installment in DeMonaco’s Purge film series, and another great example of how fresh ideas can beat enormous budgets.
The film was made on a $3 million budget, while it grossed an amazing $89 million worldwide.
The story is put in the future, where it’s legal to murder and commit crimes once a year for a 12-hour period when all emergency services are shut down.
