Will Ferrell rarely makes a movie that is not well received at the box office, mainly because his fans are so devoted and know exactly what to expect from him.

Perhaps producers were relying on this to catapult “Land of the Lost” to success.

But even though fans felt it was funny and entertaining, it didn’t bring in the box office dollars producers were hoping for. In fact, the film lost over $65 million.

A parody of the original television series of the same name, “Land of the Lost” became fodder for critics, who nearly ripped it to shreds. It even received the most nominations at the 30th Golden Raspberry Awards, a spoof of the Golden Globes where the poorest quality wins.

Those who liked it usually claimed that critics didn’t get the point of the film, that it wasn’t supposed to be exactly like the show, and that perhaps the audience didn’t understand that it was a spoof, not a remake. But even though the movie fell into the expected “so ridiculous it’s funny” category that Will Ferrell all but created, nothing could save it.

Though fans of the film continue to support it, the box office performance turned this movie into “Land of the Lost Dollars”.
