The Psycho-Biddy genre is defined by gothic-looking old rivaling ladies engaged in bitter feuds, while the setting of Psycho-Biddy films is usually in isolation, at a haunted mansion or such similar location.
The film that put the genre on the map was What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962), starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, which played quarrelling sisters living in a run-down house completely isolated from the rest of the world.
What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? went on to win the Oscar for Best Costume Design, and saw Bette Davis land a nomination for the Best Actress award. The stars fought regularly off the set as well, but their behaviour didn’t jeopardize the film’s wide success.
Other films from the Psycho-Biddy genre include Whoever Slew Auntie Roo?, Die! Die! My Darling, Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte, What Ever Happened to Aunt Alice?
