9. Nudist Films

Nudist films were popular from the 1930s to 1960s, and were in most cases set in nudist camps. It was mostly women who starred in nudist films, while the few men who took part were largely ignored by the plot line (if there was one), and the camera.

Nudist films propagated a lifestyle free from conservative constraints, as well as reconnecting with nature through nudism, healthy eating and exercise.

Director Russ Meyer put the nudist films on the map of Hollywood cinema, while other prominent pictures include Garden of Eden, Valley of the Nude, and Elysia.

Nudist films were supposedly big on physical activity and often featured naked volleyball matches, and were as a result were also called “volleyball films.”
