In this film, Hawn plays Joanna, a horribly uptight rich woman who spends her life painting her nails and ordering around servants.
Her yacht docks somewhere in the Pacific Northwest where she hires Russell’s character to build her a closet.
The two have a tiff after Hawn refuses to pay for the closet that was made from oak–not cedar as she assumed it would be. As a result, she throws him and all of his tools overboard.
The fun happens when Joanna falls overboard late that evening. She suffers amnesia and, after seeing her on the news, the gritty carpenter decides to go pick her up for some payback time. Because she can’t remember who she is, the carpenter is able to convince her that she is the mother of his sons and her life revolves around cooking, cleaning, and caring for them all.
The trick goes awry when the carpenter begins to have feelings for his haughty housekeeper. Joanna becomes accustomed to the squalor and learns to embrace a new type of life. Eventually, of course, she gets her memory back. Viewers will have to watch to see the memorable conclusion.
