12 Reasons Why True Detective Became Truly Defective

6. Not Enough Plot Around The Central Story

After a you are a few episode deep in season 2, you get the feeling that the main story of 3 unlikely detectives investigating the mysterious death of a corrupt city manager, is just not enough for the 8 consistent episodes.

We get the feeling that Pizzolatto needed to compensate by throwing in more and more things on the pile, with no apparent reason or connection.

This was somewhat criticized in the first season as well, but here we have plenty of complicated side stories which are more of a distraction than plot catalysts providing us with significant character’s back-stories.

More is less in season 2, apparently.
