7. Mediocre Side-Plots

Right after the weak central story, we come to even weaker side-plots.

With main storyline being a bit of a flop, one would hope that the side-stories could save the day by being more interesting and groundbreaking. Tough luck, guys.

Pizzolatto comes up with several intriguing tales, some of which are even thematically related to the main plot, but most of the time we are presented with raw and half-done stuff.

For instance, we have a story about the crime boss named Frank, a side-plot which somehow manages to avoid almost any connection to other characters. The drug cartel shootout also has merely a tangential connection to the main plot, and while all those weird sex parties might be fun, they end up being nothing more than confusing digressions.
