One of the things fans love the most about the House Stark are their direwolves. These gigantic wolves are not only fierce animals, but also a reflection of many favorite characters’ souls.

This is why everyone was surprised when they saw Sansa Stark’s direwolf get killed. Lady didn’t do anything wrong, but was just a casualty of Cersei’s arrogant display of power.

Similarly, Grey Wind met the same fate further into the show.

The Red Wedding massacre took the lives of many beloved and cherished characters, including Robb Stark and his direwolf, who was caged and helpless against those who killed him.
