In-Bruges

14. In Bruges

“In Bruges” was the first film written and directed by Martin McDunnaugh. It stars Colin Farrell as a hit-man who is told to lay low in Bruges after a job for a few days.

The Colin Farrell character accidentally killed a child while trying to perform a routine “hit” and is currently wanted by the police.

While he’s hiding out, Colin Farrell’s character has to deal with the fact that he hates Bruges with every fiber of his being, as well as the people who live there.

He also has to get over the fact that he accidentally murdered an innocent child. This black comedy does have its dark moments, but keeping in mind that it’s cinema, one can overlook the darkness and embrace the lighter moments that are filled with fun.

Critics essentially loved the film as did fans. One of the reasons it scored such high praise is that the plot simply couldn’t be foreseen.

The surprises were also complemented by superbly crafted comedic moments. Farrell has been in many films now, but his comedic moments genuinely offer a side of the actor that isn’t typically seen. He does an extraordinary job making this farcical character believable. This is definitely a film worth checking out when you want a hit!
