Everyone in the film is completely unaware that Phoenix isn’t having a nervous breakdown and is just putting on a show.
Phoenix goes through hell in the movie, trying to find out who he really is and fulfill his dreams in the process.
Even though the movie can get quite dark, it still has enough laughs to be something that all comedy fans can enjoy.
Directed by Casey Affleck, the film was written by Affleck as well as Phoenix. Sean Combs, Ben Stiller and Jamie Foxx also appear in the film as themselves. Many of the movie’s critics were completely divided on whether this film was a real documentary of the actor’s life or a piece of performance art. Perhaps it’s both.

The audience will have to decide for itself amidst the film’s serious moments and its hilarious ones. If you’ve seen any of Joaquin Phoenix’s other films, be sure to see this one which is a departure from so much that he’s done. It’s definitely showcases a unique side of the actor.
