11. Cannibal Holocaust (1980)

This Italian cannibal film was directed by Ruggero Deodato and was inspired by Italian media coverage of Red Brigade terrorism.

The coverage included news reports Deodato believed to be staged, an idea which became an integral aspect of the film’s story.

The story follows a search party seeking out a missing film crew sent into the Amazon for a documentary shoot.

The movie is one of the first contributions to the found footage genre and the scenes that utilize it are horrific.

It was even thought to be a snuff film at the time since the murders portrayed were considered so realistic that it accumulated a great deal of attention and Deodato was even arrested for he was suspected to have actually killed people in the movie. Of course, this turned out to be false, however, the movie did contain 6 real life animal killings.

Some things really cannot be unseen. Beware if you’re planning to watch this one.
