Though not really a pornographic movie by definition, the ’70s controversial biographical film “Caligula” was maybe even more hardcore than some adult movies previously mentioned.
The movie focused on the rise and fall of the Roman Emperor Caligula and it featured some serious stars of the time: Malcolm McDowell, Teresa Ann Savoy, Helen Mirren, Peter O’Toole and John Gielgud.
Helen Mirren spent most of her scenes prancing around without clothing, engaging in various sex scenes in which she vividly depicted several levels of simulated coitus.
The movie caused numerous legal issues for its publisher, Penthouse, and was banned, edited and cut by film boards more times than almost any other movie of the time. Even the actors claimed to have been shocked at the final product.
Looking at Helen a bit differently now, are we?
