3. Psycho (1960)

This 1960 American horror-thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock was often referred to as “The Granddaddy of Horror.”

Based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Robert Bloch and loosely inspired by the crimes of Wisconsin murderer and grave robber Ed Gein, this film forever turned the beloved safety of our bathrooms into anxiety filled nightmares.

The movie was a true trendsetter for the future of psychological suspense thrillers, and without Psycho, we probably never would’ve seen today’s classics like “Fight Club”, “The Usual Suspects”, and “The Shining.”

It is considered one of Hitchcock’s best films and praised as a work of cinematic art by international film critics and film scholars.
