The newer version stars Chris Klein, Jean Reno, LL Cool J, Rebecca Romijn, and Naveen Andrews, and it was directed by John McTiernan.
The 2002 Rollerball has a much greater concentration on action, with more subtle social and political overtones and it takes place in the present, rather than a dystopian future like the case is with the original.
But we all know that substituting something that gave the original its zest for some early 2000’s action grinding doesn’t lead to anything good.
The remake was an instant flop and became the main thing of jokes ever since then. Chris Klein did return to his somewhat-celebrity status with 2012’s American Reunion, but Rollerball cost him his short-lived leading man status. Romijn and LL had no problem with the movie, what so ever.
