Dodes-ka-den

7. Dodes’ka-den

Akira Kurosawa’s 1970’s flick (with a name no one can pronounce properly) was his first full color film. Who would have guessed, right? Wrong.

Let’s just face it, the man went bonanza with the colors.

And you can’t really blame him, he had spent his entire career constrained to black-and-white and when he was finally given the opportunity to use some color he did it in a manner most majestic (which is pretty awesome considering the story takes place in a garbage dump).

You’re probably wondering how can something so colorful get you into a sleepy state, but that’s where the story of the mentally handicapped young man who conducts trains in his own head comes in.

This movie may be hard to watch because it will get your brain into thinking about things it hadn’t given any much thought before, and what better way to fight that than by sleeping?
