One of the most famous continuity errors in all of cinema exists in the second act of “Die Hard” when John McClane, wearing a white wife beater, ventures into an air duct in the Nakatomi building to escape from terrorists.
When he comes out of the air duct later on, however, the wife beater is suddenly brown. This is more than just a case of an air duct that is in desperate need of cleaning – it looks like a completely different shirt.
Bruce Willis has become almost as famous for his character’s love of wife beaters as his ability to dispose of bad guys. His role as John McClane is arguably his most famous but it almost never came to pass.
Director John McTiernan intended to make a sequel to Commando but failed to get Arnold Schwarzenegger on board. Die Hard was born, and the lead role was initially offered to Arnold who turned it down. The director then offered it to Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone, Burt Reynolds and Richard Gere before settling for Bruce Willis.
