20 TV Shows That Were Cancelled Too Early

Firefly

8. Firefly

Well-written with a complete universe as a backdrop, Joss Whedon’s vision of humans colonizing planets after a species wide war was obviously intended for the long haul.

The stories were interesting, the characters fascinating, and the humour and tag lines just enough to be catchy. What could Fox possibly do but cancel it after 14 episodes?

“Firefly” is another example of the Space Western where a small group of humans explore the furthest reaches of deep space whilst doing battle with extra terrestrials.

Despite a devoted fan base, “Firefly” achieved disappointing ratings and Fox cancelled it after the 11th episode was broadcast.

The show managed to win a Primetime Emmy award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series. After its cancellation, Fox released a DVD box set that did well and helped the show establish a cult following.

Every True Fan of Firefly Should Have These Action Figures and Toys

“Firefly” has even been mentioned in the hit show “The Big Bang Theory” when the character of Sheldon attempts to start a campaign to get the show back on air.

After witnessing the huge outcry after the show’s cancellation, Whedon teamed up with Universal Pictures to make a movie based on the series named “Serenity.” Fans can also catch up with the characters through comic books and role playing games.
