Perhaps it was because the show was based on an actual city in South Dakota, and largely chronicled the city’s growth and development.
Regardless of why the show became so popular, fans were quite upset when, right before the fourth season began, the show was unceremoniously canceled.
For a while there were talks that perhaps the show would come back for a fourth season to wrap up the cliffhangers left over from the third season and provide closure for the fans. However, this never came to fruition and fans are still left wondering what happened to their favorite characters.
