25 Worst Movies Ever

ExorcistII

8. Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977)

This ill-advised sequel was clearly a ploy to piggyback on the original’s success.

This low-budget film, though, bombed with critics and audiences alike. It’s interesting to note that the director and producer of the original “Exorcist” wanted no involvement in a sequel.

Still, money talks, and the pair were coerced into producing what would join the ranks of the worst movies of all time.

This movie was intended as a follow up to the horrifying events depicted in the original movie. The sequel, though, ended up being a rehash of “The Exorcist” with a few unappealing twists.

The demon Pazazu has apparently decided to attack people with psychic healing abilities, making the premise of this movie as thin as its budget. Absurdity abounds, particularly when the priest Lamont is tempted with omnipotence by a doppelganger of the main character, played by Linda Blair.

Don’t expect a sensible resolution to the movie. A series of nonsensical events lead up to an anticlimactic ending that will leave you disappointed but glad the movie is finally over. William Peter Blatty, author of the novel on which the original is based, reportedly laughed hysterically during the premiere and wondered aloud if he was supposed to be watching a comedy.

Laughter from the audience quickly followed.
