Leave Them Alone! Most Upsetting Movie Remakes
No one can deny that inspiration and so-called “muses” are common among the film industry. Simply put, they come with the territory. There is a very fine line, though, between inspiration and botching classic movies. These are the movies that couldn’t perceive that infamous fine line.
1. Carrie
The 1976 version of “Carrie,” which starred Sissy Spacek in the title role, has horrified audiences of all ages for almost four decades.
The pig’s blood scene at the prom is nothing short of infamous, and the movie has made numerous lists of critically acclaimed films, including AFI’s “100 Years…100 Thrills.”
Perhaps one of the key trademarks of a good horror film, the original “Carrie” was both scary and funny, which is why audiences have embraced it for so long.
The “Carrie” remake starred Chloe Grace Moretz as the girl with the telekinetic powers and Julianne Moore as her mother (in all respects, a very promising duo). While the graphics and design of the movie were above average, it didn’t quite capture the pure isolation and raw pain of the original.
Most critics noted that Kimberly Pierce, the director of the remake, didn’t really do enough to separate her version of the story from the original, which made it feel like an unnecessary film. On the plus side, Moretz got very positive notices, and the film itself won the 2014 People’s Choice Award for Favorite Horror Movie.
