Despite featuring Deadpool’s first ever live-action appearance, the 2009 film “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” didn’t exactly please fans of the deranged Marvel Comics character. In fact, the interpretation is seen by many to be pure blasphemy.
Sure, fans appreciated the casting of Ryan Reynolds, but what they didn’t like was that the film stripped away everything about Deadpool that makes him Deadpool: no cancer, no costume, and as a coup de grace, a sewn up mouth.
20th Century Fox has officially announced that the movie will be released on February 12, 2016 – which means that production will start up within the next six months.
When the Deadpool movie was first greenlit, one of the biggest questions that immediately popped up was in regard to the status of Ryan Reynolds’ relationship with the project. While the writers and the director of the film have been confirmed, a deal with the actor remains up in the air.
The Canadian star is the natural choice, being a superfan of the character and having previously played him in 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and, but he has experienced a rough road in the years since – dealing with the big flops of films like “Green Lantern” and “The Change-Up.”
He is still the frontrunner for the Deadpool gig, and probably won’t be long until he is fully locked in.
It’s also very possible that the film will even introduce more mutant characters to the X-Men. After all, Rob Liefeld said in an interview, “Every new X-film has always featured new mutants in it. I believe Deadpool will reflect that same practice.”
