There are few better encounters than the one between Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon. And thanks to Hollywood, this great story will be brought to the big screen.
Deadline reports that Kevin Spacey will take on the role of former President Richard Nixon, while Michael Shannon stars as rock ‘n’ roll icon Elvis Presley in “Elvis and Nixon,” the new film from director Liza Johnson, who most recently helmed the indie drama “Hateship Loveship” starring Kristen Wiig.
Little has been released about their time spent in the oval office, and who knows what actually happened, but the idea of two of modern cinema’s greatest scene stealers having a go at these two capital-C characters is enticing in and of itself.
The casting is smart, but looks-wise, the two should probably be reversed. Imagining Shannon in an Elvis wig is a tad bit frightening, but it should make for a kind of surreal viewing experience.
The movie is co-written by “The Princess Bride’s” actor Cary Elwes along with Hanala and Hoey Sagal. Cassian Elwes will produce “Elvis and Nixon” together with Holly Wiersma, with whom he worked on “Dallas Buyer’s Club.”
