It’s official – the search is over and Justin Lin will be directing the upcoming installment of Star Trek.
After weeks of speculation and the last week’s final list which included Justin Lin, Rupert Wyatt, Daniel Espinosa, Duncan Jones and Morten Tyldum, Paramount studio has finally picked the director for long-awaited “Star Trek 3,” as Fast & Furious veteran got chosen for the job.
Luckily, Orci will have the time since he decide to abandon the “Bourne Legacy” sequel when Universal Studios decided to return the franchise to the faithful hands of Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon.
It seems that Paramount wanted to be on the safe side by choosing Lin, especially at short notice. Lin has already proven his talents with the “Fast & Furiouses” franchise where he has shown he can indeed handle large casts, FX-heavy action and more than a billion dollars at the box office.
The script is being penned by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, with Orci overseeing the project as a producer.
The still untitled Star Trek 3 installment is expected in cinemas sometime in 2016.
