A few days ago, news about Disney’s iconic “Mulan” getting a live-action movie caught our eye. But the surprises don’t stop there, as now we learn that even “Pinocchio” is looking to sail in similar waters.

As Deadline reports, Peter Hedges has been appointed by Disney with the task of writing the story for the live-action remake of “Pinocchio.”

The wooden boy will be following the path of Disney’s successful attempts at turning cartoons into ‘real’ movie, as they did with “Alice In Wonderland,” “Maleficent,” and “Cinderella.”

The original tale of a doll that magically comes to life in order to do its best in becoming a real boy was originally written by Carlo Collodi in 1883. Aside from his rather original appearance, Pinocchio is also known by his nose, which tends to get longer every time he tells a lie.

Disney’s original animated movie was released in 1940. In the middle of WWII and the harsh times it brought, the movie was received very well by the audience, earning it a total of $85.2 million worldwide. Aside from the insane amount of money for that time, “Pinocchio” also managed to earn two Academy Awards.

Recent reports suggest that “Pinocchio” won’t be the only Disney cartoon that will be remade, as “Beauty And The Beast,” “Dumbo,” and “Mulan” are also set for a live-action remake.

Many of us still remember how touching and heart-warming the story of the wooden boy is. And since it has been around for quite some time, the live-action remake will have a tough time filling such big shoes.
