Environmental activist’s Appian Way and Paramount Pictures will produce the film based on a book not yet written about the scandal for which they recently purchased rights.
No details have been released on the casting so it’s unknown whether the actor will star in the film as well, but what has been revealed is the fact that the book will be written by New York Times journalist Jack Ewing.
The book will explore the recent Volkswagen scandal which saw 11 million of the company’s diesel vehicles equipped with software to beat emission tests worldwide. The device for cheating on emission tests produces desirable results when in reality the cars emit 40 times more the permissible limit.
Leonardo DiCaprio has produced environmental films in the past and his foundation has granted $30 million to different projects since it was established in 1998.
