Hot-Fuzz

16. Hot Fuzz (Edgar Wright, 2007)

It isn’t every day that a film is produced overseas and gains swift popularity in the United States. Usually that trend is experienced in reverse.

However, with a veteran trio in charge of this film, “Hot Fuzz” quickly became a hit in the US following its release in the UK in February, 2007.

Edgar Wright directed the action-comedy which stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. The trio of Britons had previously worked together on a UK television series, “Spaced,” and broke into film with the 2004 flick “Shaun of the Dead.”

This film follows Nicholas Angel, a tight-laced officer in the Metropolitan Police Service in London. Early in the film, Angel (Pegg) is sent to a quiet village in Gloucestershire as a punishment for making his fellow officers look bad.

During his time in Gloucestershire, Angel continues to strictly enforce the law. At first the local population laughs off his actions, until it appears that he is starting to put the pieces together regarding a number of strange incidents in the village.

Eventually, he discovers that the community leaders, together with local law enforcement officials, are covering up crimes to preserve the pristine image of the town.
