In a role that demanded an intense passion, for both art and romance, there are few actors who could have pulled it off so convincingly.
We have had the pleasure of seeing DiCaprio in dozens of intense and powerful films since, like “Gangs of New York” and “Inception,” for example, as well as more recent films such as “Django Unchained” and “The Great Gatsby,” but none of his roles have been as memorable or as well-received as that of Jack Dawson in “Titanic.”
Despite his versatility in acting and the almost cult following he has garnered over the years, however, he has in fact never won an Oscar, and has only been nominated five times.
The heart-breaking emotion in “Titanic” that made DiCaprio one of Hollywood’s most beloved actors just wasn’t good enough for the Academy, who instead chose Jack Nicholson for his role in “As Good as it Gets.” “Titanic” did, at least, win Best Picture, as well as ten other Oscars.
Leonardo DiCaprio is still trying for his Oscar; let’s hope his next film is finally worthy of the Academy’s attention.
