Eighteen Brilliant But Unawarded Acting Performances

9. Marilyn Monroe – Some Like It Hot

Famously known for being the most gorgeous and glamorous woman in American history, Marilyn Monroe is one actress you would have expected to win an Oscar.

Her performance as Sugar Kane Kowalczyk is a dazzling display of Monroe’s charm, elegance, and that sensuality that she is well known for.

Co-stars Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis create a believable yet hilarious chemistry with Monroe’s character Sugar, but she undeniably steals the spotlight from the first moment she appears on the screen.

Brilliantly written and resounding with all the humor you would hope for in a film about men pretending to be women, this film is a must-see for lovers of ’50s style comedies – or anyone, for that matter, who loves Marilyn Monroe.

While she received a Golden Globe for “Some Like It Hot,” the Academy completely (and purposefully, it would seem) overlooked Monroe. In fact, she has never even received an Oscar nomination, despite her beloved and critically successful roles in such films as “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” “Bus Stop,” “The Misfits,” and “The Prince and the Showgirl.”

If you have never seen Monroe in action, check out “Some Like It Hot” and see why this was one of the Academy’s most appalling snubs.
