2. Clash of the Titans

Sam Worthington is a notable actor, but he should’ve thought twice before delving into this script.

The 1981 version was noted for its visual effects, solid storyline, and interesting cast (which included some big names in filmmaking, including Laurence Olivier and Maggie Smith).

Both films are loosely based on the story of Perseus – a Greek myth that features major players like Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades.

The hero Perseus must go up against the gorgon Medusa and the hideous mythical beast known as the Kraken. One of the most memorable moments from the 1981 version of the film occurs when Calibos states, “Release the Kraken” (a line that has become a popular Internet meme in recent years).

Producer Adam Schroeder undertook a “Clash of the Titans” remake in 2002 with the goal of creating a film that got rid of the manipulation of the film’s characters by the gods. The film took several years to get off the ground, and was eventually abandoned by Schroeder before it was picked up again by new producer Basil Iwanyk.

Director Louis Leterrier, who was a longtime fan of the original, signed on in 2008 and cast Worthington as the lead. The remake opened to generally negative reviews in April 2010. While the new version possessed wonderful visual effects, they overshadowed the watered down storyline. Not even Liam Neeson could rescue the uneventful acting of Sam Worthington.
