Steve Martin and John Candy both have a wealth of classic lines in Planes, Trains and Automobiles, but this one sticks with us.
The pair made for one of the most entertaining comedy duos in film history.
Martin plays a neurotic marketing executive who is struggling to get home for Thanksgiving after a series of unfortunate mishaps derail his plans.
Behind most of the setbacks is Del Griffith, a clumsy shower curtain ring salesman who is determined to become Neal’s friend. The pair set out on a hilarious journey across America that sees Neal lose what’s left of his sanity. The film ran into difficulty when attempting to find car and railway companies to feature in the movie.
As transportation companies are depicted in a less than favourable light during the film, none of the existing companies would lend their name to the film. The filmmakers then had to build their own airline terminal, buy and refurbish old train cars and hire 250 cars to depict the car rental company.
The design team had to come up with business names and logos for every one of the transportation companies.
