When a radical professor persuades his best students to help create a poltergeist, alarming events begin to unfold.
The experiment yields some terrifying results as the students realise they’ve opened Pandora’s Box.
Jared Harris stars as professor Coupland, an unorthodox scientist who believes that paranormal activity is created out of negative human energy. He leads his students in effectively torturing a young female patient with a series of tests intended to drive her insane.
The film is actually based on true events. In 1970, a group of Canadian psychologists set out to prove that all ghosts and paranormal activity are simply a product of human imagination. They created a fictional character known as “Philip Ayelsford” and invented an entire life story and unique personality for him including details regarding his tragic death.
The psychologists then set up séances in an attempt to contact Philip and ask him questions about his life. Amazingly, an entity began to make contact by knocking on the table in answer to certain questions about his life and even levitated the table during a live experiment in front of an audience.
Were the events a product of the psychologist’s imagination or was something more sinister communicating with them in the guise of Philip? The film will be released on April 25, 2014.
