This supernatural film follows a young couple, Zach and Samantha, who are enjoying their honeymoon in the Dominican Republic.
After visiting a fortune teller who informs them “they’ve been waiting for you”, the couple accept a lift from a cab driver who takes them to a local bar.
After drinking too much, the couple pass out and are secretly taken into an underground chamber where a mysterious ritual is performed on Samantha. The pair then wake up in their hotel room with no memory of what transpired the night before. After returning to the US, Samantha is shocked to learn that she is pregnant despite taking birth control pills.
The film is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett who decided to shoot the entire movie with a handheld camera. Although the film shares similarities with the “found footage” genre, the directors never intended to indicate that the events were real or that a character in the film is capturing the events.
The result is an incredibly creepy film that does justice to the 1969 classic. With a run time of eighty-nine minutes, this film is definitely worth seeing.
