Donnie Darko is one of those films that acquired a cult-like following long after it left the movie theatre.
Directed by Richard Kelly and released in 2001, Donnie Darko is a film about a teenage boy named Donnie, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, who has strange visions to say the least. He is often visited by a human-sized rabbit who influenced Donnie to do bad things.
This sci-fi feature is Kelly’s directorial debut, and although it did make its budget back at the box office it quickly disappeared after less than a month it spent at the cinemas.
Only after it was released on DVD did it get the recognition it deserved for being a truly unique and ambiguous feature that still sparks debate among sci-fi and horror film lovers.
