You might be surprised to see Showgirls on our list of flops that turned out to be not-so-bad (in this case) movies as people rarely consider Showgirls to be “pure gold”, but there is no denying it became a cult classic.
The story about a naïve Nomi Malone (Elizabeth Berkley) with big dreams and small pockets in Las Vegas was mocked to no end when it was released, and most of the criticisms was aimed at Berkley.
To make matters worse, Showgirls banked $20 million of its $45 million budget.
In the years that followed its release, the film became a cult classic that brought home $100 million in rentals thanks to its overacting, excessive toplessness and silly dialogue, which put Showgirls into that loveable “it sucks so bad we like it” category.
