The movie was written as a comedy about an Inuit who comes to New York with hilarious results. After receiving the greenlight to begin casting,
John Belushi was initially proposed as the title character. Belushi had agreed to play the role but never got to begin filming because he passed away in 1982 due to a drug overdose.
The movie kept on, casting comedian Sam Kinison in the role. He read the script and was almost immediately thereafter killed in a car accident. The script stalled for more than a decade when John Candy agreed to take the script home to read it… then died of a heart attack in 1994. Scary. Unfortunately, the last actor to be suggested as Atuk was Chris Farley. He was in talks to play the role, but never made it beyond those talks because he passed away from a drug overdose.
We think it’s for the best that this movie never gets made.
