This is true for Roman Polanski, the director of “Rosemary’s Baby,” the film starring Mia Farrow as a woman carrying a demonic child.
Apparently, Church of Satan leader Anton LaVey cursed Polanski and the film during production. While Polanski disputed this claim, it’s pretty hard to argue with his ensuing string of bad luck.
Sadly, Polanski’s wife Sharon Tate, the star of the “Valley of the Dolls” film was killed by members of Charles Manson’s cult. Tate was 8.5 months pregnant at the time in 1969. Nine years later, Polanski was arrested for having sexual relations with a 13-year-old girl. Seeing as that was definitely his fault, Polanski fled to France to avoid sentencing in the United States. He remains there to this day.
Polanski wasn’t the only victim of the “Rosemary’s Baby” curse. William Castle, the film’s producer reporting that he received death threats and angry letters upon the film’s release and was later quoted as believing that witches had cast a spell on him. He died in 1977 of a heart attack – the fright could have likely killed him.
