With one parent that can read minds and another parent with the ability to compel people to do his bidding, this kid, played by Barrymore, is bound to have some surprising talents of her own.
She can, in fact, start fires at will and also see into the future which is pretty freaky.
When her mother is murdered by a government faction that wants to take the fire-starting kid and make her into the ultimate weapon, the kid takes off on the run with her father. Barrymore plays a convincing little firestarter and the plot is naturally brimming with explosions.
The child, creepy though she may be, finally has to take matters into her own hands to win her freedom. Having lost nearly everything, she leaves a trail of destruction behind her. Released in 1984, this movie makes for an exciting event. It also showcases just how versatile King’s stories really are. While he seems to portray strange and creepy kids, he manages to do so in a myriad of clever ways!
