10. Eddie Redmayne In The Theory of Everything

Eddie Redmayne took four months to prepare to play Steven Hawking, who has been suffering from a rare early-onset slow-progressing form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis for over 50 years, in The Theory of Everything.

Challenges that Redmayne faced were numerous, from learning specific body postures and speech impairment of someone with severe neurological disease, to not having much to rely on in terms of literature or previous work done on the subject as the case of Steven Hawking is so special that when he was first diagnosed doctors gave him 2 to 3 years to live.

Redmayne’s next challenge was the fact that the shooting wasn’t done in chronological order and he had to play later stages of the disease early on during the filming.

After four months of preparation, Redmayne met with Hawking to make sure what he learned was correct and copied Hawking’s sense of humor and mischief perfectly to deliver a stellar performance which landed him his first Oscar for best actor.
