Critics and fans would say all the effort Portman put into this role is certainly worth it, but only the 34-year-old knows what it took to transform her into a ballerina.
The actress is only 5’3″ and had to lose 20 pounds to make a convincing ballet dancer, which she achieved thanks to an extremely low-calorie diet and hours of dance training and exercise.

Portman began her physical and ballet training exactly one year before the shooting started, practicing anywhere between 3 and 8 hours a day with her coaches. Her fitness training involved swimming, ballet classes and choreography, which came last when everyone made sure Portman’s body would be able to take the pain.
