Firth’s part was extremely demanding because, as he put it, if he got it wrong it would sound “comedic”.
Geoffrey Rush, who plays a speech therapist that Prince Albert, later King George VI, consults in the movie was in charge of comedy, but there was nothing comedic about Firth’s effort and the end result he was able to produce for the film.
Firth was lucky to have found an excellent speech pathologist close to home to prepare him for the demanding role in which he had to stutter to the point of not being able to get the words out.
