Nobody really knows how this movie made it this big, especially when you take into account that it wasn’t backed up by some enormous marketing campaign.
However, one thing is sure – “Napoleon Dynamite” kicked some serious ass 11 years ago and made a staggering $46.1 million, on a $400,000 budget.
This ultimate naughty comedy managed to become a cult classic even though its makers, Jared and Jerusha Hess, edited the whole thing in their apartment using only their laptop.
It took them 22 days to finish the production stage. When the movie came out and premiered at Sundance, the huge bidding war broke out and Fox bought it for big money. We could easily say the movie was a real dynamite.

Oh, yeah. Jon Heder, the main star of the movie was paid only $1,000 for the role. He later, of course, re-negotiated the deal and is still getting a nice cut out of its success.
