Upon its release back in 1980, “Friday The 13th” was actually received rather poorly by critics, however, the audience thought it was the right kind of slasher horror movie and everybody wanted to see it back in the day.
The initial installment directed by Sean S. Cunningham and written by Victor Miller, cost only half a million dollars, but managed to gross almost 60 million of big ones. This mystery-slasher horror franchise now has 12 films under its belt, with the most recent one, the remake of the original one, released just 6 years ago, in 2009.

However, the 1980s franchise starter is still considered to be one of the first “true slasher” movies ever made.
