“Mad Max” is a 1979 Australian dystopian action film directed by George Miller, produced by Byron Kennedy and starring Mel Gibson when he was still relatively unknown.
James McCausland and Miller wrote the screenplay from a story by Miller and Kennedy, and this post-apocalyptic story became a role model for all the subsequent movie endeavors placed after the end of the world.
The interesting thing was that the first “Mad Max” movie actually ended up flopping the American box office, but it cleaned up worldwide, reaching a total gross of $100 million.

The movie held the Guinness record for most profitable film for decades. It later spawned the sequels “Mad Max 2” (The Road Warrior) in 1981, “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” in 1985, and of course the latest “Mad Max: Fury Road” which is now raiding the theaters worldwide.
