5. Erin Brockovich

Brockovich is a mom of three little kids living in a roach infested house, barely able to keep her kids fed. She gets into a car accident and hires the law firm of Ed Masry to seek damages against the doctor who totaled her car.
The case is lost, and without a job, Brockovich convinces Masry to hire her on as a legal assistant.
Although she is working on some boring real estate cases, Brockovich uncovers that Pacific Gas and Electric have been contaminating the area water with toxic chemicals that are making area residents sick.
With her determination, Brockovich obtains records from the water board and in fact convinces her boss Ed Masry that PG&E is responsible for the medical problems of half the community. Masry, with Brockovich by his side, files a lawsuit against the huge company on behalf of the people who are signed up with their firm.
