Unexpected Misses Of The 2015 Oscars

February 23, 2015

Academy Awards are known for bringing both joy and disappointment to directors, actors, and composers alike. This year was no different, as we’ve seen sure wins and unexpected failures at the Oscars this Sunday.

With that in mind, let’s take a look back and check out the missed opportunities of the 2015 Academy Awards.

Michael Keaton

Birdman

Despite the fact that “Birdman” picked up a total of four Oscars, the Best Actor award didn’t fall into the hands of the movie’s main actor Michael Keaton.

The crowd certainly didn’t expect this to happen, but we can see how Eddy Redmayne’s performance as Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everyhing” cast a shadow over Keaton.

How To Train Your Dragon 2

Everyone loved the original movie, and most of us enjoyed its sequel, but “How To Train Your Dragon 2” still failed to snatch the Best Animated Feature award.

Instead, the prize was given to Disney’s “Big Hero 6.”

DreamWorks didn’t get an Oscar since 2001’s “Shrek,” and while everyone thought this was their break from the losing streak, Disney went home with the award once again.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Matt Reeves certainly did an awesome job with “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” This reboot had an awesome story, cast, and CGI, but it still managed to miss its shot in the Best Visual Effects category.

As a shock to all, Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar,” the movie everyone loved for its plot, grabbed the Best Visual Effects award. Sure, the sci-fi drama looks pretty, but how can it ever compete with monkeys dual-wielding machine guns while riding horseback?
